One Last Ride?

Originally, fans were expecting an eight-episode run for season two of 1923.

However, according to TV Insider, the finale will be an extra-long episode set to release on April 6. The episode will drop at midnight Pacific Standard Time on Paramount+.

This season finale is expected to last nearly two hours, making it one of the longest episodes in the Yellowstone universe, which includes Yellowstone, and its prequels 1883 and 1923.

Will 1923 Be Renewed For A Season 3?

As of now, 1923 has not been renewed for a third season, meaning that this nearly two-hour episode could be the final opportunity for fans to experience some of their favorite characters.

If the show’s popularity and massive viewership were the deciding factors in a potential renewal for a third season, fans might anticipate another installment. The show broke global viewership records as the biggest premiere in Paramount history with over 5.4 million viewers.

Creator Taylor Sheridan might see this two-season prequel as a complete narrative, similar to the one-season epic of 1883. Sheridan has stated that he felt the story had come to a natural conclusion,

“We wanted to make a 10-hour movie that ended, and that’s what we did. For me, as a storyteller it feels close ended. I’m going to peek through the window of a different era and see what I see then.”

This means that if the 1923 finale wraps up all the intricate storylines and character arcs, then Sheridan could view it as a closed chapter. Meaning it would not be renewed in that case.

Where Did We Leave Off In 1923?

In 1923, like in Yellowstone, Taylor Sheridan showcases characters living in the same world while undergoing their unique journeys, which occasionally intersect and ultimately lead to one grand conclusion.

At the end of the sixth episode of 1923, Alexandra finds herself alone and trapped in the American wilderness. She has no food, water, or shelter and is snowed in with her two British companions, who, unfortunately, have succumbed to the freezing temperatures.

Meanwhile, her husband is on a train traveling through America. He is trying to reach Montana in hopes of saving his family and reuniting with his wife. The couple met in season one, were separated at the end of that season, and faced perilous journeys throughout season two to find their way back to each other.

Sheridan continues this theme on the home front, where characters like Cara Dutton and Elizabeth spend most of their time on the Montana ranch, anxiously waiting for their men to return and fearing for their lives as the men fight for their land in town or the Montana plains.

The previous episode included 7 onscreen deaths, setting the stage for what promises to be a dramatic finale.

Fans are hopeful that the finale will answer pressing questions: Will Spencer and Alexandra reunite? What will happen to Teonna? Will Whitfield end up at the train station? And what is the destiny of Cara and Jacob Dutton?

All of this will hopefully be revealed in the feature-length finale releasing on Sunday, April 6, at 12 AM Pacific Time.
