Carrie Underwood’s Powerful Christmas Performance Will Give You Chills
In 2020, Carrie Underwood released her first-ever Christmas album, My Gift. The album contained her renditions of Christmas classics such as “O Holy Night” and “The Little Drummer Boy,” which she sang with her then-five-year-old son, Isaiah.
Another beloved Christmas song Underwood recorded for My Gift was “Mary, Did You Know?”
The lyrics of “Mary, Did You Know?” were written by Mark Lowry in 1984. Buddy Greene wrote its accompanying music seven years later. Christian artist Michael English then became the first person to record the song.
“Mary, Did You Know?” has been covered many times since. It has deep roots in country music, with notable renditions having been performed by Kenny Rogers and Wynonna Judd, Dylan Scott, and Dolly Parton.
Underwood followed in those other artists’ footsteps when she recorded the song for My Gift.
