Chris Stapleton recently suffered a painful injury to his hand, rendering him unable to make his scheduled performance at CMA Music Festival Sunday (June 11). After news of his injury spread, the country singer took to social media to confirm with fans he will be rescheduling his upcoming show due to a broken bone and detached tendon in his right index finger.
“The doctor is hopeful that with some physical therapy I will be playing guitar again soon,” wrote Stapleton on his Instagram. “Right now, I can’t possibly give you guys the show you deserve. I always want to give you my very best. There is little in this world that I enjoy more than getting to make music with all of you night after night. Thank you for the privilege.”
Those set to attend the star-studded music festival with hopes of seeing Stapleton hit the main stage were left wondering who would replace the country music superstar. To fill the massive hole left in Stapleton’s wake, the event coordinators brought on Dustin Lynch to play Friday, Old Dominion to take the stage Saturday, and for the winners of CMA Award “Vocal Duo of the Year,” Brothers Osborne, to ultimately fill-in for Stapleton on his Sunday time slot.
