Cody Johnson & “Brothers” Come Together For “Feliz Navidad” Performance

Cody Johnson and his friends came together for a rockin’ rendition of “Feliz Navidad” during his CMT Christmas special.

Cody Johnson is a CMT Music Award and CMA Award-winning country artist. He began his music journey back in 2006 with his dad Carl and friend Nathan Reedy as The Cody Johnson Band. Over the next 12 years, Johnson rose to fame releasing music on his own and became the first independent artist to play a sold-out show at the Houston Rodeo.

Following that record-breaking show, he was signed to Warner Bros. Records and his stock has just continued to rise!

So far, he has released two albums with his record label, plus his Christmas album, A Cody Johnson Christmas. Two years after the release of his Christmas album, Johnson and CMT teamed up for CMT Presents: A Cody Johnson Christmas.

When was Cody Johnson’s Christmas special?

CMT debuted A Cody Johnson Christmas on December 13, showcasing a festive celebration of music and memories. The special, featuring Cody Johnson, his family, and friends, aired at 9/8c. Joined by wife Brandi, daughters Clara and Cori, plus parents Sheila and Carl, Johnson delivered nine tracks from his 2021 album, A Cody Johnson Christmas, a collection of ten revamped holiday classics.

From Willie Nelson’s “Pretty Paper” to Merle Haggard’s “If We Make It Through December,” Johnson’s modern renditions shone. Collaborating with friends Kevin Fowler and Roger Creager, the special featured a spirited performance of “Feliz Navidad,” adding extra charm to the recording.

“Feliz Navidad” dates back to 1970, when Puerto-Rican singer-songwriter José Feliciano wrote and recorded it.

“Feliz Navidad” has been covered by countless artists including Michael Bublé,  In 2010, the song was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame.

When Johnson was introducing the song, he called it “Tex Mex Christmas,” since they all hail from Texas. Watch them perform it here.
