Cody Johnson has some simple but powerful words for anyone who idolizes him.

There are a lot of young people out there who look up to Cody Johnson, and it’s easy to see why.

The country star has built a very impressive career. He has six albums with multiple songs that have climbed to the top of the charts. A few of those include “Til You Can’t,” “I’m Gonna Love You,” and “The Painter.”

He has also picked up several awards along the way, including four CMA awards. Most recently, in November, he took home the CMA Male Vocalist of the Year award.

Needless to say, Johnson has plenty to be proud of.

What Does Johnson Say To The People Who Idolize Him?

In a recent interview with Taste of Country Nights, Johnson talked about what it’s like to have people call him their “idol.”

“These kids come up to me at my shows and they say, ‘I wanna be just like you when I grow up,’” the singer said.

Being put on such a high pedestal comes with a lot of pressure and responsibility. However, Johnson wants everyone to know that he genuinely believes that if he can do it, they can too.

“I’m just as messed up as a lot of people. I’m human too,” he wants fans to know. “Don’t look at the stage and think, ‘That guy’s got something that nobody else does.’”

He adds that he has “tried very, very hard over the years to get closer to God, get closer to being a better man, but, we’ve all got our problems, you know?”

And even though he doesn’t necessarily see himself as anything special, Johnson definitely continues to show why he is respected by so many loving fans.

For instance, he has shown a lot of resilience over the past few months. In October, Johnson shared with fans that he had to undergo emergency surgery on his eardrum after it ruptured due to a severe upper respiratory and sinus infection.

Recovery hasn’t been easy at all. It even forced him to cancel the rest of his 2025 shows so he could slow down and heal.

But, he didn’t forget about the fans who were excited to go to those shows that he suddenly had to postpone. Johnson later made an announcement that he would be adding additional tour dates in 2026 to make up for it.
