Ashley Flynn Killed From Gunshot Wound
37-year-old mother, teacher, and volleyball coach Ashley Flynn was killed in her home in Tipp City, Ohio, in February. Her husband, Caleb Flynn, a former American Idol contestant, called 911 after reportedly discovering her body on February 16. He initially told authorities that her death was the result of a home invasion.
Tipp City Police Chief Greg Adkins later confirmed that Ashley died from a gunshot wound. Despite the violent nature of the crime, he stated that it appeared to be “a targeted incident,” adding that there was no indication the community was in danger.
Just three days later, on February 19, authorities arrested Caleb in connection with Ashley’s murder.

Former Idol Contestant Caleb Flynn Becomes Main Suspect
Caleb was indicted last month on several charges, including aggravated murder, two counts of murder, two counts of felonious assault, three counts of tampering with evidence, and two counts of witness intimidation. The most serious charges (aggravated murder, murder, and felonious assault) also include firearm specifications.
His trial is scheduled to begin on April 28, with a pretrial hearing that took place March 30. Caleb’s bond has been set at $3.5 million.
Court documents further allege that between February 16 and February 18, the 39 year old attempted to intimidate a witness because the person was believed to have information related to a criminal or delinquent act.
Caleb was a contestant on Season 12 of American Idol. He impressed then-judges Mariah Carey, Randy Jackson, Nicki Minaj, and Keith Urban, with his audition performance of “Lean On Me” and earned a Golden Ticket to Hollywood Week.
The Flynn’s were well-known in the Tipp City, Ohio, community. Ashley worked as a substitute teacher, coached 7th-grade girls volleyball, and also taught at a local Bible-based academy.

New Request Could Delay Caleb Flynn’s Trial
While Caleb’s case is expected to begin in just two weeks, on Monday (April 13), Miami County Court of Common Pleas records show the prosecutor’s Office filed a motion to delay the trial.
“On Saturday, April 11, 2026, the State received an expert report and provided said report to Defense counsel on the same date. In order to comply with Criminal Rule 16(K) requiring disclosure of expert reports no later than twenty-one days prior to trial, the State would request a continuance of four (4) days,” the filing reads.
The defense has objected to the motion, while the state has not yet sought a delay in the case. Check back for more updates regarding the former “Idol” contestant’s case.
