George Strait Honors Law Enforcement Following Shooting At Trump Rally

Saturday, July 13, 2024, will go down in history as the third assassination attempt in our country’s history.

Former President Trump was speaking at a Pennsylvania rally when a gunman opened fire. Trump was hit in his right ear before taking cover. Trump eventually stood up with Secret Service members around him and raised a fist, appearing to say, “Fight!” before he was rushed off stage.

Powerful images of him doing this have emerged, especially with the blood running down the right side of his face.

The next morning, former President Trump took to Truth Social to break his silence on what had occurred. See his statement below.

Just mere hours after the shooting, George Strait held a concert in Detroit, Michigan at Ford Field.

Strait performed a total of 31 songs during his set on Saturday, July 13. Nearly halfway through, his 12th song was his powerful song “The Weight of the Badge,” which is a song he co-wrote with his son, Bubba, and his longtime collaborator Dean Dillon.

It was included on his 2019 album Honky Tonk Time Machine. The song serves as a way for Strait to honor law enforcement officers. In it, he sings,

“He’s seen it all in his fifteen years
Watching our backs, facing our fears
Lord knows it ain’t no easy task
Keeping us safe under the weight of the badge…”

He introduced “The Weight Of The Badge” by saying, “This song we’re gonna do especially for all you men and women out there that wear the badge. [To say] how much we appreciate you. Thank you for coming when we need you. We appreciate that very much, especially after today.”

If course, he is referring to the shooting that took place just hours before.
