Ever since the day that Gwen Stefani and Blake Shelton announced they had gotten engaged, fans and friends have been asking about their plans for “the big day.” And now, Gwen is finally shedding some light on it…

After dating for five years, Blake and Gwen formally announced their engagement on October 27th, 2020 across social media by posting a photo of a sweet kiss and Gwen flashing her new ring.

In a new interview with Ryan Seacrest for his radio talk show, Stefani explains that even though they’d love to get married and plan it all out soon, the pandemic has had them rethinking how they want to do it.

“It’s so funny to even say ‘engaged’ because it feels so weird,” she said with a slight chuckle. “We’ve been saying it so long for like five years ‘Are you getting married? Are you engaged?’ And now we actually are engaged. I feel like I’m in a cartoon or something.”

Even though she’s still reveling in the excitement of being engaged, she has taken the idea of her forthcoming nuptials very seriously and given it a great deal of thought – especially considering the COVID-19 pandemic.

“I would say I just want my parents there at this point. My parents wouldn’t come to Thanksgiving because they’re so scared,” Stefani told Seacrest. “Really would rather it not be a COVID situation. Would rather not have masks and that kind of thing. Even when you cut it down to just family, it’s still too many people for COVID. We’re sort of going to see what happens in the next few months.”

There have been plenty of stories of wedding guests contracting COVID-19 even after following precautions and it’s clear that Gwen and Blake both want to make sure that their guests are safe and healthy as they enjoy the special celebration.
