Lindsay Ell was rocking a pretty unique accessory at the CMT Music Awards on Wednesday night (June 9)…a large cast on her foot!
Ell turned up to the CMT Music Awards with crutches and a scooter to help her get around backstage. She broke her foot just days before the ceremony, but decided to make the best of her situation!
She wrapped her cast in silver tape to match her dress, and her crutches were decked out with sparkly rhinestones. The “Criminal” singer also put a decal on her scooter that says “Ell On Wheels.”

Ell ditched her scooter and crutches for a moment so she could join Lady A and Carly Pearce on stage for the show’s opening performance. While speaking with ET on the red carpet, Ell said they worked things out so she wouldn’t have to move much during the performance:
“Lady A have been so incredibly sweet in just embracing my whole situation,” Ell said. “So, for my guitar solo, Hillary [Scott] is coming to me, and we’ve worked out staging so I don’t need to hop around on stage.“
As for how she ended up with a broken foot just days before the CMT Music Awards, Ell said her dog, Hendrix, is to blame:
“I was chasing after my dog!” Ell told ET. “She got out of the bus, we left the bus door open and she just went plummeting out of it. Naturally, like any dog owner, [I ran] after her, but I was in socks.”
She continued, “I jumped from the top step of the bus onto the parking lot and I just landed wrong. “I broke it pretty good.”

Even though it was less-than-ideal for Ell to have a broken foot at the CMT Music Awards, she made the best of the situation.
“I just think that’s what life is about,” Ell said while speaking with ET. “If we’ve learned anything from the last year and a half, it’s how to take lemons and turn them into lemonade.”
We give Ell some serious credit for showing up to the CMT Music Awards just days after breaking her foot. She pulled off an awesome opening performance with Lady A and Pearce, as you can see in the video below.
Ell said her doctors told her it will take eight weeks for her injury to heal completely. We’ll be keeping her in our thoughts and prayers as she recovers!
