Here’s something you may not have known existed: the sub-genre country and Irish music. The sub-genre is formed through a mixture of North American country music with a little Irish twist. Although we don’t hear much of it around here, one Irish hunk in particular, made sure we started paying attention.

Nathan Carter is a 28-year-old country singer from Ireland. Originally born in Liverpool, the singer has traveled his way through Europe to find his music style. Carter learned to play the accordion at age four which is a prominent instrument used in Irish country music. The singer’s debut album, Starting Out, was released in 2007. This album kicked open a door that revived the genre of Country and Irish music together.

Carter got his real rise to fame when he released his Irish version of Old Crow Medicine Show’s “Wagon Wheel.” He not only landed top three on the Irish album chart but also got international attention. People across the world were loving his accordion-style version of this folk hit. His upbeat and happy Irish spirit added to the international obsession. Since then, Carter has gone on to release five more albums including a Christmas CD.
While Ireland’s heartthrob has gained success for himself, he began touring around Europe. At the Salardu Country Rock Festival in Spain in 2018, Carter crushed the stage with his rendition of Tanya Tucker’s “Delta Dawn.” Although he’s already pleasing to look at, it was his vocals and onstage attitude that made the cover unbeatable. He ditched the microphone stand and opted for dancing through the tune. His thick Irish accent goes unnoticed as his country roots come out in his vocals while singing the classic. Without a doubt, the crowd loved every second of it.
