Colin Kaepernick’s extremely bold move to refuse standing during the National Anthem during a late August game has sent Americans, both football fans and not, off the edge! Upon being asked for his reasoning to not participate in the moment of respect for his country and those who have selflessly died for it, Kaepernick responded with, “I am not going to stand up to show pride in a flag for a country that oppresses black people and people of color.” He continues with, “To me, this is bigger than football and it would be selfish on my part to look the other way. There are bodies in the street and people getting paid leave and getting away with murder.”

Rich’s blunt and honest words received wide approval and appreciation, one fan even saying if this controversy is not resolved, he will boycott the NFL.

As the controversy continues, many do understand Kaepernick’s efforts to bring awareness to the issue that he believes needs to be addressed and remedied. However, it is his method of approach that many feel offended by, essentially feeling he gave the big “eff you” to the nation that supports, or once did, the football star. As they say, “Don’t bite the hand that feeds you.”
