On Thursday (March 5), singer and American Idol judge Katy Perry surprised everyone when she announced she’s expecting her first child!
Perry unveiled her baby bump for the first time in her music video for the song “Never Worn White.” The song has Perry singing about her desire to marry her fiancé, actor Orlando Bloom.
At the end of the video, Perry’s hands come to the front of her stomach to cradle a previously hidden baby bump. She ends the video by wearing an outfit that’s a little more sheer to show off her pregnant belly.
Perry confirmed her pregnancy on Instagram Live after the music video debuted:
“There’s a lot that will be happening this summer,” she said. “Not only will I be giving birth, literally, but also figuratively to something you guys have been waiting for. So let’s just call it a double whammy. It’s a two-for.”
It’s clear that Perry is pretty far along in her pregnancy, which means she was pregnant while American Idol was filming auditions!
Idol didn’t discuss Perry’s pregnancy until she was ready to go public with it. But once she did, the show shared a video in which she announces her big news alongside fellow judges Luke Bryan and Lionel Richie.
The trio stood side-by-side, teasing the addition of a fourth judge to their panel. Bryan then said he thought it would be best if Perry shared who that fourth judge would be.
That’s when Perry happily turned to the side to show off her growing bump and said, “We’re having a baby!“

Bryan and Richie made it clear how much they’re looking forward to meeting baby Perry-Bloom. “This is so exciting!” said Richie.
The trio began talking about Perry’s baby shower, and Bryan teased that he’s going to give the little guy or gal a whole bunch of fishing gear. “You’ll have the outdoors dialed in and Gucci shoes,” he said.
He then asked Perry if her dressing room was going to have to be any bigger now that she’s pregnant. Perry said she’ll definitely need a little more space, joking, “Everything is gonna be bigger and better on ‘American Idol” Season 3!”
