Without a doubt, the two biggest American Idol success stories are those of Carrie Underwood and Kelly Clarkson. While the two consider themselves to represent different musical genres, they do share a lot of the same fans. So, a new poll has the artists and their fans in an uproar.
Kelly Clarkson was the original American Idol…a title no one can ever take from her regardless of their success. Clarkson took home the inaugural Idol title in 2002 and her success hasn’t slowed down since.
Three years later, Oklahoma native Carrie Underwood won the title and was immediately embraced by the country music community. Ever since, the two female powerhouses have gone vied for the title of the most successful American Idol ever. But, the competition was only on the charts and on their resumes. We think it’s safe to say that the two have kept things classy and have been content in their own success without publicly fueling a competitive flame.
But, a new poll posted to the website Tylt has pitted the two Idol champs against each other in a “Who’s The Most Iconic American Idol Winner” battle. Fans immediately began calling out the site calling the competition “ridiculous.”

Both Clarkson and Underwood took to Twitter to respond to the poll, and both agreed that women’s success should be celebrated, not turn into a competition.
“I think we’re both winning in life and pretty blessed! Singers, mamas, CEO’s…” Clarkson wrote. “#AmbitiousBlondes go ahead Carrie Underwood.”
To which Underwood responded, “Whatever, girl, I voted for you! But seriously, I do wish more publications would just celebrate women’s success without pitting them against each other… Just my thoughts…anyway… Love ya’! Hope you’re well!”
