We’re sure you’ve tried (and enjoyed) KFC’s popcorn chicken bowls before. Known as their “Famous” bowls, the delicious dish combines mashed potatoes, sweet corn, gravy, popcorn chicken, and cheese into one bowl.

The result is a filling dish that perfectly fits the definition of “comfort food.”

Now, KFC is adding a spin on its popcorn chicken bowl, featuring another beloved carb in place of mashed potatoes.

On Thursday (August 22), KFC announced it will be introducing new Mac & Cheese bowls to its menus on a nationwide scale starting August 26.

The new dish will feature creamy mac and cheese, and is then topped with popcorn chicken and extra shredded cheese for good measure. Customers who want their dish to have a little bit of a kick can order the “spicy” version, which is made with Nashville hot sauce.

Mac and cheese bowls will be part of KFC’s “$5 Fill Up” menu. They can also be purchased as part of a combo, which includes a drink and a chocolate chip cookie.

Andrea Zahumensky, KFC’s chief marketing officer in the U.S., explained why the chain decided to introduce mac and cheese bowls to its menu:

Mac and Cheese has a cult-like following, and bowl food is a trend that isn’t going away anytime soon. So, it made perfect sense to call up a favorite side dish to the big leagues, in a way that only we could, with Mac and Cheese Bowls.”

This news comes not long after Chick-fil-A added mac and cheese to its menus across the country. The dish can be purchased as a side to accompany a meal, and is even available in catering portions.

Based on how much people have been loving the new Chick-fil-A side so far, it was smart of KFC to jump on the mac and cheese train.

What do y’all think of the new mac and cheese bowls at KFC? Are you anxious to give them a try, or do you think you’ll stick with the normal popcorn chicken bowls instead?
