Rob Reiner and Michele Singer Reiner were found deceased at their Brentwood, California, home on Sunday afternoon. Initial reports indicated that their bodies were discovered by one of their daughters inside the residence and that both allegedly showed signs of being stabbed. The deaths are being investigated by the LAPD’s Robbery Homicide Division, according to TMZ.
TMZ was the first to report that two bodies were found at the Reiners’ home on Sunday afternoon. Authorities speaking to the Associated Press on the condition of anonymity confirmed the identities of the victims to the outlet and shared that the couple’s son, Nick, was being questioned in regards to the case.

The Reiner family confirmed the deaths of Rob and Michele, but did not address the reports of Nick’s involvement, in a statement shared by Variety that read:
“It is with profound sorrow that we announce the tragic passing of Michele and Rob Reiner. We are heartbroken by this sudden loss, and we ask for privacy during this unbelievably difficult time.”
The Latest On The Investigation
UPDATE (12/15 at 12:00 p.m. CST): Los Angeles Police Chief Jim McDonnell confirmed during a press conference that Nick Reiner has been arrested for the murder of his parents, Rob and Michele Reiner.
“We have our Robbery Homicide Division handling the investigation…were able to take into custody Nick Reiner a suspect in this case. He was subsequently booked for murder and is being held on $4 million bail,” McDonnell shared in a brief address to the press.

UPDATE (12/15 at 9:45 a.m. CST): Numerous outlets are reporting that Nick Reiner, 32-year-old son of Rob Reiner, has been taken into custody and is being held on $4 million bail.
His arrest has not been confirmed by authorities, but online records show that Reiner was arrested on Sunday night and booked on Monday morning on felony charges. ABC News reported that the charge was “suspicion of murder.”
Nick is being held at the Parker Center Jail in Downtown Los Angeles.
The LAPD is expected to share more details of the investigation in a press conference on Monday morning, Dec. 15.
UPDATE (12/14 at 11:23 p.m. CST): In a press conference held Sunday evening, LAPD Deputy Chief Alan Hamilton said, “We are not looking for anyone as a suspect or in any other manner at this time.”
When asked why authorities aren’t looking for a suspect, Hamilton reiterated that the investigation is in its early stages and that they are obtaining search warrants to help them identify a possible suspect.
A member of the press questioned the unverified reports that a family member was being interviewed, a statement that Hamilton would not confirm.
“We’re going to try to speak to every family member that we can to get to the facts of this investigation,” he said, adding that no one had been detained or was being interviewed “as a suspect.”
Who was Rob Reiner?
Reiner began his career as an actor. He appeared on “All in the Family” for nine seasons, garnering two Emmy Awards for his role as Michael “Meathead” Stivic.

He also found success as a writer for sitcoms such as “Happy Days,” “The Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour,” and “The Glen Campbell Goodtime Hour.”
His greatest successes came as a director of some of Hollywood’s most beloved films. His directing credits include The Princess Bride, When Harry Met Sally, Stand By Me, Misery, A Few Good Men, and many more.
Rob met his wife, Michele, while directing When Harry Met Sally in 1988. The couple wed the following year and shared three children: sons Jake (34) and Nick (32), and daughter Romy (28). Rob Reiner was previously married to actress Penny Marshall and adopted her daughter, Tracy, and raised Tracy as his own.
