Yellowstone is one of the hottest shows on television, and for good reason. It’s downright incredible. The drama, the feuds, and the action all merge together in a complex storyline that’s bound to get the viewer hooked. The series shows both the best and worst of rural American life. The first season of Yellowstone was met with rave reviews, and the viewing figures for each episode were consistently around two million. This led to the series being ordered for a second and third season.
Another part of what makes the show so good is the characters. Each one is meticulously woven into the story in a way that makes you want to watch one episode after another. Behind each one of the characters is an actor/actress who has brought their skill, knowledge, and experience to the show. Meet the main characters of the show below.
Kevin Costner

Oscar-winner Kevin Costner plays the lead role in Yellowstone, John Dutton as well as being an executive producer on the show. Before Yellowstone, Costner directed and starred in the hit Dances with Wolves, as well as The Postman and Open Range. In 2005, Costner turned to one of his other passions — music. He started working with a country-rock band called Modern West. Some of their songs are even featured on the show.
Luke Grimes

Luke Grimes stars as one of the Dutton sons, Kayce, a former US Navy SEAL living on a local Native American reservation. Grimes made his acting debut in the 2006 film called All the Boys Love Mandy Lane. After that, his notable TV and movie appearances include True Blood, The Magnificent Seven, American Sniper, and Fifty Shades of Grey.
Grimes has also embarked on a country music career, and has even performed at the major country music festival, Stagecoach!
Kelly Reilly

Dropping her English accent to take on the role of John Dutton’s business savvy daughter, Kelly Reilly is a fan favorite. Reilly has starred in Flight, Pride and Prejudice, as well as a handful of television series such as True Detective, and Above Suspicion. She’s been nominated for various awards at Cannes Film Festival, British Independent Film Awards, and the César Awards.
Wes Bentley

Wes Bentley plays Jamie, another son of John Dutton who is an attorney and aspiring politician. Bentley has been nominated for a British Academy Film Award for his performance as Ricky Fitts in American Beauty. Bentley has also starred in The Hunger Games, Interstellar, and three seasons of American Horror Story in which he won MTV’s 2017 Best Villain award.
Cole Hauser

Rip Wheeler, played by Cole Hauser, is the ranch foreman at the Yellowstone Dutton Ranch, as well as John’s right-hand man. Many fans swoon over his strange but beautiful love story with Beth. Hauser is easily recognizable after starring in a number of big hit films, such as Good Will Hunting, Dazed and Confused, and 2 Fast 2 Furious. Before Yellowstone, he had a main role on the police drama Rogue. Another fun fact about Hauser is that his maternal great-grandfather was Harry Warner of Warner Bros.
Gil Birmingham

Gil Birmingham plays Chief Thomas Rainwater in Yellowstone, the chief of a nearby Native American reservation. Before acting, Birmingham obtained a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Southern California and worked as a petrochemical engineer. He is known for his role as Billy Black in the Twilight Saga film series. He’s also starred in Wind River, Hell or High Water, and The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt.
Kelsey Asbille

Kelsey Asbille plays Kayce’s wife, Monica Long Dutton. Fans will recognize her staring alongside Gil Birmingham in Wind River. Before Yellowstone, she starred as Gigi in One Tree Hill, and also held roles in Pair of Kings and Teen Wolf.
