Elleigh Marie Shares Her Story As A Military Kid

Before she started singing Raitt’s song, Elleigh shared her story with the Idol judges.

Elleigh’s father serves in the United States Air Force. She says growing up as a military kid “was pretty rough” for her since her dad would be away from home a lot.

Her mother was struggling with kidney and thyroid disease at one point while her dad was away. As the oldest of her siblings, “a lot of the responsibilities” fell on Elleigh.

On the day of her Idol audition, Elleigh had just learned that her dad was getting deployed for a year.It really sucks,” she said, wiping tears from her eyes.

Elleigh’s dad was there to support her at her audition, which meant a lot to the young singer.
