The mangled heap of metal not only left him confused about what happened, but deflated any cushion of points he had up against the cutoff for The Chase’s second round.
Brad Keselowski started off in this last Sunday’s race, The Hollywood Casino 400 at Kansas Speedway, with a 25-point buffer, but that was quickly reduced when he took a spin through the infield.
Getting a bit aggressive in hopes of advancing further in his point lead, Keselowski dodged in front of Denny Hamlin on Turn 4 and clipped the front end of his car, sending his own barreling toward the inside edge of the track and tearing it to pieces.
He had run in the Top 15 for the first half of the race, but following his crash Keselowski walked away from Kansas seven points behind the line.
“I don’t know what happened but I know what is happening now,” said Keselowski. “A group of guys were busting their butt to put the race car together and get me back out there and they did it in amazing fashion. I am really pumped about that.”
We aren’t sure exactly if this will change how Keselowski drives in future races, but it definitely wasn’t something he’d been anticipating happening this weekend.
