Jack Hughes Of Team USA Broke His Teeth During The Gold Medal Hockey Match At The Olympics
A little over a month after breaking his teeth at the Olympics, Gold Medalist Jack Hughes finally has a new set of pearly whites.
All eyes were on Team USA’s men’s hockey team as they faced off against Canada during the Gold Medal match on February 22. The match fell 46 years to the date after the historic “Miracle On Ice,” when Team USA beat the Soviet Union in the semi-finals at the 1980 Winter Games.
Two days after the “Miracle on Ice,” Team USA won their second gold medal in men’s ice hockey. Their previous win was in 1960.
Team USA won its third Olympic gold medal in men’s ice hockey at the 2026 Winter Games. They secured the victory in overtime after Jack Hughes scored the winning goal.

During the match’s third period, Hughes was struck in the face by Canadian Sam Bennett’s hockey stick. That broke one of his front teeth and damaged others.
“My first thought was, I looked down on the ice and saw my teeth. Like, here we go again,” Yahoo Sports quotes Hughes as saying. “I know the last time that happened wasn’t really fun.”
But Hughes pushed through the pain and continued playing. After he scored the winning goal, a photo of him smiling with his broken tooth and bloody face went viral and became a defining image of the Winter Games.
Jack Hughes Flashes New Smile At Yankee Stadium
While many thought it would be kind of neat if Hughes chose to make his broken teeth part of his look moving forward, he never intended to do so.
In an interview the day after winning the Gold Medal, he said, “No, I’m going to fix these things, I want my good smile back.”
Later, Hughes echoed that same sentiment in an interview with Jimmy Fallon, saying, “I can promise you, this won’t be my thing…“
Then, on Friday (April 3), Hughes was filmed and photographed showcasing his brand-new smile. He and fellow Olympic Gold Medalist Aerin Frankel threw the ceremonial first pitch at Yankee Stadium for the team’s home opener.
Hughes, a self-proclaimed “big Yankees fan,” proudly flashed his freshly repaired teeth at the game. They look good as new!
So what’s next for Hughes? Well, the 24-year-old Orlando native has already been busy with the current NHL season. He is the center and alternate captain for the New Jersey Devils, which have 40 wins under their belt at the time of this writing.
