When Steven Tyler announced his plans to release a solo country album, no one knew how fans would respond. Well, if the Billboard charts are any indication, they responded quite favorably.
Tyler’s debut country album has been a long time coming. He first revealed his plans to record the album in March 2015, and he released the lead single, “Love Is Your Name,” two months later.
Still, Tyler remained mum when it came to revealing the album’s title or release date. He worked on the album throughout the remainder of 2015 and into 2016, and also released a second single, “Red, White & You” in January.
In June, Tyler took part in a phone interview with Rolling Stone and finally revealed the release date and title of his new album. Titled We’re All Somebody From Somewhere, Tyler said the album was set for release on July 15. He also released the title track as the album’s third single and announced an accompanying tour called Out On a Limb, which started on July 2.
No one knew what to expect when We’re All Somebody From Somewhere dropped on July 15. Would the rock and roll legend’s breakthrough in country music be a success?
To answer that question…yes!
Days after Tyler’s album was released, Billboard confirmed that he beat out the competition to snag the #1 spot on the Top Country Albums chart. Tyler sold 17,000 copies of the album in its first week, and it debuted at the 19th spot on the all-genre chart called the Billboard 200. As of July 26, Tyler’s album appeared in the Top 100 on iTunes‘ top-selling albums chart.
