Leaving to head to their reception, this very young newlywed couple was tragically killed just moments after saying their vows.
19-year-old groom Harley Morgan and his 20-year-old bride Rhiannon Boudreaux were still in their tuxedo and bridal gown when they were killed after a large truck struck their four-door sedan on the way to celebrate the start of their life together.
“I’m talking five minutes. You may kiss the bride,” Orange Police Cpt. Keith Longlois told KFDM. “The family was right behind them. They were all going out to go to wherever they were going to have their reception.”
Boudreaux and Morgan were childhood sweethearts who had big dreams, Morgan’s mother said in an interview, clearly devastated.
“I had to sit there and watch my two babies die,” LaShawna Morgan told the Beaumont Enterprise.
Captain Longlois explains that the pair were married by popular Orange County Justice of the Peace Joy Dubose-Simonton ahead of their planned larger celebration in December.
He explains that the groom, Morgan, was driving the car when he exited the driveway of the Justice of The Peace building onto a four-lane highway with center turning lane.
This is when a pickup truck pulling a trailer loaded with heavy machinery slammed into their car – sending it flying through the air and flipping multiple times before landing in the nearby ditch.
Both bride and groom were killed instantly. The driver of the truck is cooperating with police. Longlois says that they are investigating, but there are no initial signs of wrongdoing. They will be conducting drug and alcohol tests.
