The Voice Returns With Season 29 On Monday, February 23
Season 29 of The Voice starts in less than a week! But the show went ahead and released one of its auditions a few days early.
It seems safe to say that Season 29 of The Voice will be unlike any other. To begin, this season only features three coaches: Adam Levine, John Legend, and Kelly Clarkson.
All three have won the show before, so they know what it takes to emerge victorious! That’s why this season has been dubbed the “Battle of Champions.”
The Voice previously released a trailer for the new season that highlights the coaches’ competitive spirits.

Additionally, the show plans to introduce several new elements and rules. Plus, some fan-favorite former contestants will return during the Knockouts.
Premiere week will feature a whopping total of three episodes, airing on February 23, 25, and 26. Then, the show will move to airing one episode per week, on Monday evenings.
Alexia Jayy Earns The First Three-Chair-Turn On The Voice
But you don’t have to wait until Season 29 of The Voice starts to watch the first blind audition of the season! On Tuesday (February 17), the show released a video of hopeful contestant Alexia Jayy singing Aretha Franklin’s “(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman.”
Jayy’s powerful performance earned an almost-immediate turn from Kelly Clarkson. It didn’t take long for John Legend and Adam Levine to follow her lead.
Therefore, Jayy became the first person to ever earn a three-chair turn on The Voice (with only three coaches present to turn).
With the pressure off, Jayy let her voice soar as she entertained the coaches and the crowd. She had all three coaches on their feet before the end of the song!

John Legend encouraged Jayy to welcome her nine-year-old son onstage. Her son, Matthew, smiled as he stood by her side and listened to the coaches shower his mom with praise. There was a funny moment when Clarkson called his mama “a bada–,” although she noted that Matthew shouldn’t repeat that word.
In another comical moment, Legend asked Matthew about his favorite artist, and he answered, “Maroon 5.” That is, of course, the band that Voice coach Adam Levine has been a member of for over 30 years.
After soaking in that glory, Levine turned his attention to Jayy. He said:
“You have that voice that motivates me even more to say, ‘You know what? This is the best voice in the competition. This is what has to win…You’re one of the best we’ve ever seen.”
The sneak peek clip The Voice shared cuts off before Jayy picks her coach. But you can watch her full vocal performance and some of the after-audition commentary in the video below!
