Alexia Jayy Of Team Adam Won Season 29 Of The Voice
After keeping her Voice victory secret for months, Alexia Jayy is finally able to tell the whole world about it!
Season 29 of The Voice was unlike any other. The season, known as the “Battle of Champions,” only featured three coaches: Adam Levine, Kelly Clarkson, and John Legend.
On top of that, the show introduced several new elements. Former contestants returned during the knockouts to participate in an all-star competition, and Kelly Clarkson used the new “Super Steal” to save her own contestant during the battles.
Every episode of Season 29 was pre-taped, including the semi-finals and finale. That meant viewers at home couldn’t vote for the winner.
Instead, the champion was chosen by an in-house audience…and that champion was Alexia Jayy! She is the first Black woman to ever win The Voice.

Jayy joined Team Adam after turning all three chairs during the blind auditions. Adam Levine’s band, Maroon 5, is her son’s favorite artist, so it only felt right to pick him!
Since Season 29 was pre-taped, Jayy and Levine couldn’t say anything about her win until after the finale aired. That episode was filmed months ago!
“It was the hardest thing I ever had to do,” Jayy told Gold Derby in a post-finale interview. “It was very hard for my mom too. I had to fuss at her so many times, but thank God she did what she had to do. It was definitely really hard to hold that news in because it’s so exciting.”
What Does Alexia Jayy Dream Of Doing Next?
During her conversation with Gold Derby, Alexia Jayy revealed what she plans to do next. She spoke about her biggest dreams, saying:
“I want to keep getting on these big stages and keep putting out music…I’m just going to keep going.”
Jayy is already sticking to that plan! She released her new single, “Rent Free,” the night of the finale. You can watch its official music video below.
As the winner of The Voice, Jayy earned $100,000 and a recording contract with Universal Music Group. Despite her newfound fame, she told Gold Derby she hopes she never stops being “grounded.”
“I love who I am right now,” she added. “I love the mom that I am. I love the person that I am, so I just hope that I get to stay the same.”
Jayy also hopes she’ll get the chance to sing with some legendary artists one day. When Gold Derby asked who her dream duet partner would be, she said:
“I’d probably go with Stevie Wonder. I love all the legends. I would love to do something with Stevie [Nicks]. I’d love to do something with Lauryn Hill. I feel like our voices would sound really, really good together, so that would be really dope.“
We believe a collaboration with her coach, Adam Levine, wouldn’t be out of the question either! The duo celebrated Jayy’s win in an interview with Extra after the finale.
“She deserves it all,” Levine said. “And I’m not just being humble for the sake of being humble, because this woman moved us all so much…It’s for you, not for me.”
