For Season 18 of The Voice, Blake Shelton, Kelly Clarkson, and John Legend were all set to return. A brand-new coach joined them and he made his announcement on in October 2019 on The Ellen Show. Nick Jonas, one-third of the wildly popular trio the Jonas Brothers, turned out to be the next celebrity to sit in the iconic red chair.
Ellen surprised Jonas with video messages from Blake, Kelly and John. “I’m gonna have to look through the rules, because this is my tv show, I’m not even sure that you’re old enough to be a coach on The Voice,” Blake teased. “But, I’m certain you’re gonna get your butt kicked, buddy.”
Kelly Clarkson and John Legend were a bit nicer in their welcome video, and each offered Jonas an alliance in an effort to “destroy Blake Shelton.”
“I’m so excited to be a part of The Voice family,” Nick said in a statement. “It’s such an awesome group of individuals, and I can’t wait to help these artists really build and hone in to find their unique voices.”
Jonas also shared his excitement on Instagram.

Besides the encouraging video messages from his fellow Voice coaches, Ellen also gave him quite the scare from a guy dressed up as Blake Shelton! Wearing a flannel, jeans, and a cowboy hat, one of Ellen’s producers jumped out of the side table and scared Nick to the point where he lifted his legs up to protect himself!
We will definitely be tuning in next year to watch him battle it out against Blake, John, and Kelly!
