On Tuesday’s (Nov. 26) episode of The Voice, a contestant revealed that her father passed away a couple of days before her Playoff performance.
The past three episodes of The Voice Season 26 have been classified as the Playoff Round. Each coach had five singers vying for two spots to advance to the live shows. During this round, each coach brought in an advisor to help them guide their final five singers into the live shows.
The November 26th episode featured singers from Michael Bublé’s team. He enlisted country singer Carly Pearce as his advisor, which made perfect sense, seeing as they had just released a brand-new Christmas song together.
19-year-old singer Sloane Simon auditioned for The Voice with a song dedicated to her ailing father.
Singing Natasha Beddingfield’s “Unwritten,” Sloane revealed she got her first guitar when she was eight years old, which is also when her mom was diagnosed with cancer. She explained that as her mom recovered, her dad was diagnosed with Stage IV cancer. “Unwritten” was his favorite song, so she chose to audition with it.
Sloane joined Team Gwen Stefan and was eventually stolen by Michael Bublé after the Knockout Round.

As the competition progressed, her father’s health declined. As much as she wanted to be back home in Pittsburgh with him and the rest of her family, it was her dad’s wish that she continue the competition. So she did.
In her Playoff’s pre-performance package, she revealed that her father’s oncologist had given him anywhere between a few days to a couple of months to live.
She gave an excellent performance of “Good Luck, Babe,” and during the judging portion, revealed that she had lost her father the Sunday before she filmed the Playoff performance.
“I’m here, and I sang for him,” she said, reiterating that her dad wanted her to stay and compete.
Upon hearing the news of her father’s death, Snoop Dogg immediately got out of his chair and said, “The spirit of your father is telling me to give you a hug right now. I’m so proud of you right now.”
Gwen and Reba McEntire were both in tears the rest of the time Sloane was in front of them.
Even though he passed mere days before her performance, according to her Instagram, she wrote, “This performance was the hardest thing I ever had to do. I found out my dad passed away right before I stepped on stage.”
Bublé said:
“Number one, I love you. Number two, I thought your performance was marvelous. Number three, I know that your dad must be so proud of you. I can’t really express to you in any words how highly I think of you and how amazing I think what you’ve done today is.”
During a one-on-one interview, the “Feeling Good” singer said, “It is a testament to her strength that she’s here and I have no idea how she found the inner strength to do what she did today.”
While she did not move on in the competition, she really should be proud of fulfilling her father’s last wish.
