Zach Bryan takes a stab at Walker Hayes’ hit song.

Breakout country music star Zach Bryan has some opinions when it comes to modern country music and country radio. Yesterday, Bryan tweeted

“Imagine being radio (whoever the hell that is), hearing Shake the Frost and being like ‘no no let’s go with the Applebees song’”

The two songs Bryan referenced in his tweet are “Shake the Frost” released by Tyler Childers in 2013, and “Fancy Like” — which includes a reference to Applebee’s — which was released by Walker Hayes in 2021.

Quickly after the tweet was posted, Bryan began to take heat for the comment. One user pointed out

“You’re not wrong but don’t do Walker dirty like that. Another great songwriter.”

Bryan defended himself, saying that he was making a point that it is “silly” that it took Tyler Childers ten years to make it on country radio. Bryan regards Childers as one of the best songwriters of all time.

He also added that his initial tweet was meant with “humor not malice,” and that he was not insulting anyone.

A few hours after Bryan’s initial tweet, and subsequent pushback, walker Hayes responded to the swipe. In his ever-cheerful manner, he tweeted:

“Big shout to radio for playing dat Applebees song💪 Zach and Tyler praying y’alls  continued success🙏”

The playful song “Fancy Like” was a viral hit for Walker Hayes, and hundreds of thousands of TikTok videos have been made to the tune. The single also spent some time in the top spot of both the US Country Airplay and US Hot Country Songs charts in 2021.
