To honor their guest judges, the Top 8 contestants all sang Sheeran and Morrisette songs. The contestants formed pairs to sing duets, and all of the duets were Sheeran covers.

One of the most-viewed duets was between Wé Ani and Warren Peay. They performed Sheeran’s romantic hit, “Perfect.”

Where Were Katy & Lionel?

Sheeran and Morrisette were filling in for regular judges Katy Perry and Lionel Richie. Why were the two of them absent from the show?

Turns out, they had a pretty important reason to be away! The two of them were both overseas to perform during the concert for King Charles’ coronation.

Richie and Perry popped in to say hello to everyone from England. Then, as a huge surprise, King Charles and Queen Camilla appeared in the video to speak to the Idol audience. You can watch their message in the video below.

We hope Richie and Perry had a wonderful time over in England! We’re excited to have them back on Idol next week to watch the Top 5 contestants perform.
