Yellowstone’s Awards Show Snubs Are Surprising

Despite its immense popularity, Yellowstone has consistently been snubbed by awards shows.

The show only won one award during its six-year run. That award came from the Cinema Audio Society Awards in 2022 for Outstanding Achievement in Sound Mixing for Television Series – One Hour.

On another surprising note, Yellowstone only received one Emmy nomination. It earned a nod in a production design category in 2021.

Additionally, only one of the show’s stars has won a major award. Series lead Kevin Costner won the Golden Globe for Best Performance by an Actor in a Television Series – Drama in 2023.

Costner was unable to attend the ceremony due to flooding near his home in Santa Barbara. He shared a grateful acceptance speech after unboxing his trophy at home.

“When you first come to Hollywood, you know, you just wanted to get your first job,” Costner said. “You’ve seen these things, and you even wonder if you’re ever gonna get in a room like that. It feels really good to have this…”

Yellowstone Producer Christina Voros Addresses The Lack Of Recognition For The Show

You’d think that the Yellowstone cast and crew would be discouraged by the constant snubs from awards shows. But the show’s producer, Christina Voros, doesn’t let the lack of critical recognition bother her.

Voros addressed Yellowstone’s awards show snubs during a recent interview with The New York Post. She said, “I don’t pay a whole lot of attention to that. I think ‘Yellowstone’ has gone under the radar amongst the tastemakers from the beginning.”

Voros noted how Yellowstone creator Taylor Sheridan has never received a lot of awards or nominations for his work. This is surprising, since he’s known for creating hit series such as Mayor of Kingstown, Tulsa King, 1883, and 1923.

I think that the number of awards or the nominations that have come up over the years for Taylor’s work is vastly disproportionate to the caliber of work that’s out there,” Voros said.

Still, Voros feels proud of everything they accomplished on Yellowstone. That makes the lack of recognition from awards shows sting a little less.

“I think when you make something that you’re really proud of, it almost doesn’t matter what everybody else thinks,” she said. “And that’s how I feel about the finale of the show.”

Yellowstone‘s finale aired on December 15. So there’s still time for the series to be recognized by awards ceremonies in 2025.

Beyond that, a new spin-off centered on Beth Dutton and Rip Wheeler is in the works. Perhaps that series will finally earn the awards that evaded the Yellowstone cast and crew.
