Luke Combs Gears Up For Release Of New Album, The Way I Am

Just a few days after teasing his unreleased song “I Ain’t No Cowboy,” Luke Combs announced he was releasing the track on March 13. That day has arrived, which means country fans have a new song to savor!

“I Ain’t No Cowboy” is one of the 22 tracks included on Combs’ upcoming album, The Way I Am. The entire record will drop on March 20.

But Combs hasn’t been withholding his new songs from fans. He’s released several of the tracks already, including “Back in the Saddle,” “Sleepless in a Hotel Room,” and “Be By You.”

Combs released the latter track as a tribute to his wife, Nicole. It dropped right before Valentine’s Day, and shortly after the singer and his wife welcomed their third son, Chet Wiley Combs.

When speaking about The Way I Am, Combs has expressed his excitement about the project. Writing on X (formerly Twitter) in March of last year (2025), he said:

I’ve been spending the last couple of weeks working on what my next record looks like and as it begins to take shape I can honestly say I’ve never felt better about one at this stage. It’s early on but I really do think it could wind up being the best record I’ve ever made.”

Now, fans have another piece of The Way I Am to listen to ahead of the album’s debut. Combs’ new song, “I Ain’t No Cowboy,” has been released.

Unlike his previous release, “Be By You,” which is a swoon-worthy love song, “I Ain’t No Cowboy” tells a heartbreaking tale.

In the song, Combs sings about getting into a relationship with a woman he knew was destined to end from the start. Despite that, he found himself holding on to his ill-fated love, both physically and mentally.

But the woman craved so much more and wanted to break free to live her own life. Combs remarks, “I would have been better off breakin’, a herd of wild mustangs.”

From there, he shares his heartache in the chorus, singing:

I ain’t no cowboy, but I wish I was,
We’d have rode off together in the settin’ sun,
Instead of watchin’ her ride right out of my life,
If I could have roped her heart back in
.”

There’s no denying that Combs packs an emotional punch with those lyrics. Be one of the first people to hear his brand-new song, “I Ain’t No Cowboy,” in the studio video below.
