Zach Bryan’s “Something in the Orange” is officially the longest-charting country song on the Billboard Hot 100 this century.

“Something in the Orange” is an original song written and recorded by Zach Bryan that he released in April of 2022. This song was the second single from his album American Heartbreak, and quickly became his most popular song.

“Something in the Orange” became Bryan’s first song to earn a spot on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, even making the top 10 on the chart at one point.

Zach Bryan’s hit song has now spent 65 weeks on the Billboard Hot 100 making it the longest run for a country song on the Hot 100 chart this century beating out Carrie Underwood’s “Before He Cheats.”

Moving over four million units since its release on the American Heartbreak album, the song has now been certified 4x Platinum.

Zach responded to the news with a Tweet simply stating,

“Never in my life would I have thought.
Cryin’
I love you guys.”

Due to the song’s deeper meaning and brilliant songwriting, Zach earned the number one position on the Billboard Top Songwriters chart.

“The Orange” in the title is metaphorically referring to a sunset which signifies the end of the story. The song details a mental battle of a love story that is coming to an end. Bryan wrestles with the realization stating “Something in the orange tells me we’re not done.”

Bryan told Today’s Country Radio with Kelleigh Bannen, “‘Something In the Orange’ was a weird song because everyone thinks it was over some deep, dark thing. And it was just me in a cabin in Wisconsin.

And I was like, I thought about the word orange, and I was watching the sunset, and I was like, ‘Oh, that’s a cool story to tell in a song,’ you know?”

Part of the lyrics read as follows:

I need to hear you say you’ve been waitin’ all night
There’s orange dancing in your eyes from bulb light
Your voice only trembles when you try to speak
Take me back to us dancing, this wood used to creak
To you I’m just a man, to me you’re all I am
Where the hell am I supposed to go?
I poisoned myself again
Something in the orange tells me you’re never coming home

Zach Bryan made the official music video himself with clips sent in by fans that show the “orange” the song is referring to. The beginning of the music video reads:

“Thousands of videos were submitted by my listeners for the video of ‘Something in the Orange.’ I decided to make this myself because it’s a feeling I know we’ve all shared at some point. Thank you guys for contributing and thank you guys for listening.”
