Country music’s very own red-headed superstar has led a remarkable career over the last 40+ years and in that amount of time she’s become known for much more than just her incredible music…

Reba McEntire is a country queen who started out as a barrel-racer and ended up at the top of the music charts. The journey to the top has been one of incredible adventure and unforgettable moments, but one of the most jaw-dropping highlights featured a very risqué red dress…

Way back in 1993, McEntire attended one of the biggest nights in country music – the CMA Awards. But it wasn’t her fiery-red hair that grabbed attention, it was her scandalous red dress!

Sporting a red velvet dress bejeweled with sparkling red gems, her dress featured a plunging neckline and showed a lot of skin – especially for that point in time!

McEntire had two different fittings for the dress before that unforgettable evening so that it would be picture-perfect…and boy, was it!

Hot off the raging success of her duet with Linda Davis, McEntire was ready for a night filled with fun, friends, and great music. As she told People Magazine in 2016 – when she got to the venue, she didn’t realize just how much that dress actually showed off.

“I had only had two fittings with [designer] Sandy Spika. One was at our office and I said, ‘I think you need to fill some more stuff in!’ When I put it on in the dressing room at the Grand Ole Opry for the show, I thought, ‘Maybe it’s just the lighting in here.’ And when I walked out on the stage, I heard the audience go ‘Oooooh!’ And I thought, ‘Dang, I look good!’”

“Everybody gasped!” Vince Gill recalled of that moment of the show he was hosting that year. “But what’s great about that moment was that it was unexpected out of Reba.”

McEntire admitted through laughter that her dad ribbed her over the dress asking her “Did you have that thing on backward?” And while she didn’t win an award that night, she says, “But I did make the front page of the paper the next day!”

During the 2018 ACM Awards, McEntire pulled this famous red dress out of storage and donned it for a revival of this hit song along with her daughter-in-law, Kelly Clarkson. She got a very similar reaction from the media the next day, too!
