Episode 7 of 1883 introduced us to a new character, Sam. Elsa ends up befriending Sam, who is a member of the Comanche tribe.

Sam is played by 36-year-old actor and model Martin Sensmeier. He was born in Anchorage, Alaska, and is of Alaska Native descent.

Over the years, Martin has appeared in notable projects such as the 2016 remake of The Magnificent Seven and in the hit HBO series Westworld.

Even though Martin is a new addition to 1883, he is not new to the Yellowstone universe. He actually played a recurring role on Yellowstone!

Yellowstone fans know Martin as Monica’s physical therapist in Season 2. He was also named Martin.

Monica’s marriage with Kacey Dutton was on the rocks at the time. She fell for Martin (the character), and the two of them struck up a romantic relationship. But Monica eventually brought their relationship to an end, and returned to Kacey.

Martin (the actor) has a longstanding connection to Yellowstone and 1883 creator Taylor Sheridan. He also appeared in Sheridan’s 2017 Western film Wind River, in which he played the character Chip Hanson.

Fans of Martin’s may not have seen the last of him in the Yellowstone universe. His IMDb page indicates he is credited in two more episodes of 1883. So it looks like Sam may reappear in future episodes of the series.
