UNC Frat Brothers Protected The American Flag During A Campus Protest In April
A few months ago, a group of frat brothers at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (UNC) went viral for defending the American flag.
As ABC 11 details, a pro-Palestine protest started on UNC’s campus in late April. The protesters made their way to the campus quad, where they removed the American flag and replaced it with the Palestinian flag.
The frat brothers jumped into action after that.
(Thread) Today was a sad yet empowering day at Chapel Hill. When I walked to class, I saw the Palestinian flag raised on our quad flag pole, and was immediately upset at the act that these “protestors” had made. The frat members gathered around the flagpole and guarded the American flag, ensuring it didn’t touch the ground. They also sang the National Anthem as the flag was raised back into the air.
The UNC frat brothers received lots of praise for protecting the American flag. Country singer John Rich of Big & Rich said wanted to “offer a free concert for their celebration of freedom party.”

That “celebration of freedom party” eventually became known as “Flagstock 2024.” A GoFundMe was established to support the concert. According to ABC 11, the fundraiser raised $500,000.
A portion of those funds were donated to Back the Blue, a local nonprofit organization that helps the families of law enforcement officers killed in the line of duty.

The Flagstock concert occurred on Labor Day (September 2) at the American Legion Post in Orange County off Highway 54. A New Jersey production company set up the stage for no charge.

ABC 11 reports a flyover also occurred at the event, leaving the crowd feeling “elated.”
Dan Craigg, one of the event organizers, told the outlet, “Everyone is super happy to be here. Thirty to forty volunteers from the VFW taking their Labor Day to help us put up chairs and tables. Everyone super pumped and optimistic to be here.”
Hundreds of people attended the free show, which UNC did not sponsor. Performers included Big & Rich, Lee Greenwood, Aaron Lewis, and Five for Fighting.
