Not long after Blake Shelton and Gwen Stefani started dating, the couple wrote a song together. That song turned into their first duet, which was “Go Ahead and Break My Heart.”
“Go Ahead and Break My Heart” was released on Shelton’s 2016 album, If I’m Honest. The song ended up claiming the 13th spot on the Hot Country Songs chart, despite the fact it was never released as a single.
Shelton and Stefani have performed the song live a few times, and fans always love it when they do.
In 2017, the couple collaborated yet again, this time for a track that appeared on Stefani’s holiday album released that year. Titled “You Make It Feel Like Christmas,” the song was another smash success.
The duet was released as the lead single off of Stefani’s holiday record, and claimed the ninth spot on the Adult Contemporary chart.
When Stefani released a deluxe edition of the album in 2018, she also filmed a new music video for “You Make It Feel Like Christmas” with Shelton. As of press time, that music video has well over seven million views.
After two years without a new duet from Shelton and Stefani, fans started to wonder when they’d hear the couple sing together again. So you can imagine how thrilled people were when Shelton announced he included a new duet with Stefani on his latest compilation album Fully Loaded: God’s Country.
The new song, titled “Nobody But You,” is the first of the couple’s duets they had no part in writing. It was penned by Shane McAnally, Ross Copperman, Josh Osborne, and Tommy Lee James.
McAnally was the one who passed the song along to Shelton, knowing it was the perfect fit for him:
“This was one of those songs where the more I heard it, the more I fell in love with it,” Shelton said in a statement about the song. “I also realized how important it is for me and where I am in my life, and I think that’s why Shane was trying to get it to me.”
Shelton went on to add, “It’s our song. I think it’s magic.”

He described the song more in-depth during an interview with Nashville Lifestyles:
“The lyrics of that song are so on point, not just for me and Gwen, but I think for a lot of people,” Shelton said. “The song is not a fairytale, but at the same time it’s the most epic, earth-rattling love song I’ve heard in a long time, because the lyrics are so honest and just say it how it is.”
