Authorities reported that they responded to a call at the hotel where there was an “aggressive man who could be under the effects of drugs and alcohol.” Workers confirmed Payne’s death.
Liam Payne rose to fame as a member of One Direction after the group appeared on the British version of the reality singing competition X Factor in 2015.
The band’s other members were Niall Horan, Harry Styles, Louis Tomlinson, and Zayne Malik.
One Direction was one of the most successful boy bands of all time when they decided to split up in 2016. The group was the first band to have their first four albums debut atop the US Billboard 200 chart. Midnight Memories, their third album, was the best-selling album in the world in 2013.
To date, One Direction has sold more than 70 million albums and has won more than 200 awards worldwide.
This is a developing story.
