On Wednesday (March 31), Bruce Willis’ family revealed he has been diagnosed with aphasia. According to the Mayo Clinic, “aphasia is a condition that affects your ability to communicate. It can affect your speech, as well as the way you write and understand both spoken and written language.” The condition typically occurs following a stroke or brain injury.
Because of his condition, Bruce’s family announced the Die Hard actor will be “stepping away” from his acting career.
Bruce’s ex-wife, Demi Moore, their daughters Rumer, Scout, and Tallulah, and Bruce’s wife Emma all issued the same statement with the same photo on their respective social media accounts. They also included the names of Bruce and Emma’s daughters, Mabel and Evelyn, at the end of the statement.
It read in part:
“…as a family we wanted to share that our beloved Bruce has been experiencing some health issues and has recently been diagnosed with aphasia, which is impacting his cognitive abilities. As a result of this and with much consideration Bruce is stepping away from the career that has meant so much to him…We are moving through this as a strong family unit, and wanted to bring his fans in because we know how much he means to you, as you do to him. As Bruce always says, ‘Live it up’ and together we plan to do just that.”

The news comes not long after Bruce celebrated his 67th birthday on March 19.
A day after revealing her father’s diagnosis, Scout Willis took to her Instagram Story to thank fans for their support. “The exquisite outpouring of love that I am experiencing right now is just blowing me away,” she said.
The note continued, “Thank you all for showing up with so much tenderness and stunning love for my daddio and my whole family!”
We’ll certainly be keeping Bruce and his family in our prayers.
