Iowa basketball star Caitlin Clark was the No. 1 pick at the 2024 WNBA Draft held on Monday (April 15).
Just nine days after ending her collegiate career with a loss in the NCAA Championship Game, Caitlin Clark has a new reason to celebrate: she became the 2024 #1 draft pick when she was chosen by Indiana Fever.
Her draft selection came as no surprise to anyone, seeing as Clark has broken countless NCAA records including becoming the all-time leader in points in women’s basketball.
Basketball fans everyone erupted into applause, and so did Clark’s future teammates Erica Wheeler, Maya Caldwell, and Lexie Hull. They attended the Indiana Fever’s Draft Party when they jumped out of their seats when they heard Clark was set to join their team.
They all quickly put on Caitlin Clark Indiana Fever jerseys as they cheered with the rest of the arena.

The WNBA out together an awesome set up where all the draft picks got to go look in a mirror. There, a celebrity congratulated them. When Clark went up to the mirror, country singer Luke Combs appeared!
In the pre-recorded video, Combs said, “Caitlin! Congratulations on being the #1 pick in the WNBA draft! That’s incredible. I know I can speak for everybody all across the United States, and the world probably, that we’ve enjoyed watching you these last couple years and we can’t wait to continue to do so. So, congratulations, you earned it, can’t wait to see you out there.”
Clark’s jaw dropped, so its clear she is a big Luke Combs fan!
“That’s my favorite music artist of all time!” she exclaimed. “That’s pretty cool. He’s a big women’s basketball fan, so I appreciate him. That’s amazing, I was not expecting that!”
