Jelly Roll is making positive changes to his physical health

Jelly Roll, born Jason DeFord, has his sights set on some impressive goals both within and outside of his music career. The rapper-turned-country singer, who recently cleaned up at the CMT Music Awards, announced at the beginning of the year that he is training to run a 5k race in May.

During the video where he shared about his new goal, he shouted out comedians Bert Kreischer and Tom Segura, who are hosting the 2 Bears 5K at the Rose Bowl in May. He says:

“This message is for Bert Kreischer and Tom Segura. Somebody let them know I’m in for the 5k in May.”

Jelly Roll gives an update on his weight loss journey

As his “5k by May” deadline approaches, Jelly Roll told PEOPLE that he has lost “70-something” pounds. He shares:

“I’ve been really kicking ass, man. I’m doing two to three miles a day, four to six days a week. I’m doing 20 to 30 minutes in the sauna, and six minutes in a cold plunge every day. I’m eating healthy right now.”

The “Son of a Sinner” singer went on to express how good he has felt since the change in his habits. He adds:

“I was thinking, I plan on losing another 100, 100-and-something [pounds]. If I feel this good down this weight, man, I can only imagine what I’m going to feel like by the time I go on tour.”

The Nashville native also recently underwent mouth reconstruction surgery where he got a new set of veneers. He showed off his new smile for the first time publicly at the iHeart Radio Music Awards in on April 1st.

Jelly Roll will take off on the largest tour of his career in August

Jelly Roll will kick off his Beautifully Broken Tour at the end of summer and make 37 stops between August and October. He will be joined by artists Warren Zeiders and Alexandra Kay.

Jelly Roll says that he is most looking forward to interacting with the fans who have been moved by his music and are largely responsible for his rise to fame.

“My music’s something you listen to that really gets you through something, and it means so much to stand in front of them and meet as many them as I can every night. I wish I could have lunch with anybody my song’s ever helped.”
