Carly Pearce addresses speculation surrounding a potential feud with Maren Morris after she recorded a song with her ex-husband, Ryan Hurd.

Confronting the rumors on X, Pearce posted:

“Okay. Since I have seen this all over, I figured I would respond. Ryan has been a friend of mine for over 10 yrs. I was asked by my label to record this song with him for the Petty tribute and of course I said yes because he’s a great artist. STOP making something out of nothing!”

Pearce’s social media update followed a fan’s questioning about her collaboration with Hurd on a rendition of Tom Petty’s 1976 hit single “Breakdown.”

The pair’s new rendition will be included in the upcoming album Petty Country: A Country Music Tribute to Tom Petty. This 20-track LP will showcase modern covers of Petty’s iconic hits, including contributions from Dolly Parton, Luke Combs, George Strait, and other renowned country artists.

The track will be one of Hurd’s biggest projects since his marriage with Morris concluded.

Morris filed for divorce from Hurd on October 2, 2023, after five years of marriage. Documents obtained by PEOPLE cited “irreconcilable differences” as the reason for the divorce.

The couple share 3 1/2-year-old son, Hayes Andrew. Three months after the divorce filing, they reached a “settlement agreement” regarding custody and child support.

In September 2023, Morris made headlines when she declared her intention to leave country music.

Along with her announcement, she unveiled two new tracks: “The Tree” and “Get the Hell Out of Here.”

Maren expressed feeling “very distanced” from the country music industry and the political aspects she believed the genre embodied.

Speculation arose among fans when Pearce seemingly unfollowed Morris on Instagram following the release of “The Tree.” However, Pearce’s recent social media post hints at an amicable relationship between the two, dispelling any notions of drama or animosity.

Despite social media chatter, Pearce remains steadfast in her focus on her forthcoming album, Hummingbird.

In a social media post on March 1, Pearce announced that her upcoming album is scheduled for release on June 14th and represents some of her most intimate music yet.

“The last few years have been a season of loss and growth, of healing and happiness. A belief that if I did the inner work, I would rebuild myself stronger than I was before, and a knowing that I have done some living and will always be unapologetic about it.”
