Carrie Underwood just made history at the 2024 Pro Football Hall of Fame Enshrinement Week.
She delivered her first-ever live rendition of the iconic NFL theme song, “Waiting All Day For Sunday Night.”
Like ABC’s Monday Night Football, NBC’s Sunday Night Football needed great music to attract viewers each week. They hired Oscar-winner John Williams for the opening fanfare and added a catchy theme song with a popular artist to make the show more appealing.
That popular artist is Carrie Underwood, who is the current voice of Sunday Night Football, but she wasn’t the first. P!NK sang the intro when the show started in 2006, followed by Faith Hill, who performed for several seasons before Underwood took over in 2013.
Over 11 seasons, Underwood has tried different songs, including “Oh, Sunday Night” in 2016 and “Game On” in 2018. However, a copyright lawsuit over the last tune forced her to return to the original theme.
Last season, the new American Idol judge filmed a music video for the theme song during her Reflection residency in Las Vegas. Each week, the video changed slightly to match the teams and locations of the games.

On Sunday, August 4, Underwood became the first female artist to headline the celebrated Concert for Legends. And she kicked off the show with the catchy anthem that football fans know and love.
After her amazing performance, Underwood posted a few photos from the night to social media, thanking the crowd:
“Had a fun night last night in Canton, Ohio at the [Tom Benson Hall Of Fame Stadium] for the [Pro Football Hall of Fame]. Such a great crowd! Thanks for coming out and singing along!!!”
