American Idol Winner Carrie Underwood Will Serve As The Show’s New Judge Following Katy Perry’s Departure

Luke Bryan has some advice for Carrie Underwood before she joins him and Lionel Richie at the judges’ table on American Idol.

In case you missed the news, Underwood is joining Idol to serve as the show’s new judge following Katy Perry’s departure. Fans celebrated the news since Underwood herself is an Idol alum. She won Season 4 in 2005.

She received a warm welcome from Bryan and Richie. Bryan said, “…this is gonna be one of the most amazin’ seasons EVER! P.S. Carrie, the view is different from the desk, you’re gonna love it!

Ryan Seacrest, who has hosted Idol from the beginning, also welcomed Underwood back to the show that kickstarted her career.

It’s a full-circle moment to go from announcing you as the winner of @americanidol 20 years ago to now welcoming you to the judge’s table. Welcome home, @carrieunderwood!” Seacrest said in a social media post.

Underwood commented on the post, writing, “Thank you Ryan! Excited to be coming back home!

Luke Bryan Offers His Best Advice For Carrie Underwood Ahead Of Working On Idol Together

The new season of Idol won’t premiere until early next year (2025). But auditions start months in advance, with the first auditions being held on August 12, 2024.

Seattle radio host Gabe Mercer recently asked Luke Bryan if he has any tips for Carrie Underwood before she starts working on Idol. He responded with a humorous piece of advice.

“Up her therapist,” Bryan joked. “If she has a therapist, she’s probably going to have to double to deal with me and Lionel.”

He continued the joke, saying:

Maybe I should credit her. Do therapists do gift cards? Where can I call her therapist and gift her a voucher?”
