Coyote Chases 10-Year-Old Girl & Her Yorkie

10-year-old Lily Kwan was walking her 6-year-old rescue Yorkie around the block when they were stocked, chased, and attacked by a large coyote.

“I thought, ‘Am I next, what is going to happen to me?’” Lily said.

A neighbor’s home surveillance footage shot in the Toronto, Canada neighborhood showed Lily running down the street with her dog Macy.

Following behind them at a fast pace was the coyote, and Lily said Macy did not want to follow her, so she had to drop the leash to get away from the dangerous wild animal.

“I ran to the sidewalk and started screaming for help, and no one heard me,” Lily said. “I just saw this coyote trying to attack my dog, and I tried to ring people’s door bells and knock on people’s doors. But this one neighbor actually let me in.”

Macy didn’t seem to mind being left behind. Hearing her owner scream and panic made her protective nature kick in and she decided to stand her ground against the coyote. Macy fought the coyote while Lily was able to get away to a neighbor’s house and get help.

“She’s a super brave dog,” Lily said. “I love her so much, and I just thought this tiny dog could protect this huge human being, trying to fight off this huge coyote.”

Fortunately, Macy’s barking and all of the commotion of Lily and the neighbors starting to come to the area ultimately scared the coyote off and it retreated to a nearby woodland area.

“My dog would do anything for our family, so I’m actually not surprised that she did that,” Lily’s mom Dorothy Kwan said.

After the incident, Macy was quickly rushed to a veterinarian and placed in the ICU room. She went directly into surgery to treat multiple puncture wounds from the wild animal’s attack. Macy is expected to make a full recovery.
