2019 has been a huge year for country duo Dan + Shay, and if their CMA Awards show performance is any indication, this year is just the beginning for the talented team.
During Wednesday night’s CMA Awards show, Dan + Shay performed their chart-topping hit “Speechless,” a song inspired by the way they felt seeing their wives Abby and Hannah come down the aisle on their wedding day.
“I had this title ‘Speechless’ in my phone…you’re at the altar waiting for your bride to walk down the aisle, then that moment happens and you have nothing to say,” Dan Smyers told PEOPLE. “I remember being up there on our wedding day, May 13, just a little over a year ago, and she walked up and I was at a loss for words.”
The song quickly became a popular wedding song and became Dan + Shay’s fifth No. 1 single.
At this year’s CMA Awards, Dan + Shay are nominated for CMA Vocal Duo of the Year, Album of the Year with Dan + Shay, and Single of the Year with “Speechless.” In addition, Dan Smyers is nominated for Song of the Year for his songwriting credits on their Grammy Award-winning song “Tequila.”
