A disabled veteran got the surprise of his life when Darius Rucker interrupted his own show to give him the ultimate gift.

Taking place on June 9, 2017 at Carolina Country Music Festival in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, Johnathan Mayberry was invited on stage during the singer’s set. Thinking he was just going up to meet Rucker, the wounded warrior was surprised with the deed to a new home.

Made possible by Home 4 Wounded Heroes program partnered with the Military Warriors Support Foundation, the country singer helped present the gift to an emotional Mayberry during his headlining performance.

Since the organization’s inception, the philanthropic group has awarded over 760 mortgage-free homes to disabled veterans with donations exceeding $80 million. In addition to the home, recipients are also given three years family and financial mentoring.
