For the first time in CMT Music Awards history, the fan-voted event took place outside of Music City. Fans and artists gathered in Austin, Texas, Sunday night (April 2) to recognize recipients of the genre’s only fan-voted awards.
In addition to the giving and receiving of trophies, the night was jam-packed with performances from some of country music’s biggest stars. As with most awards shows, some of the most anticipated performances come in the form of collaborations. The 2023 CMT Music Awards did not disappoint with their collaborative events.
One of the best collabs of the evening came from Darius Rucker and The Black Crowes. The former Hootie & the Blowfish frontman teamed up with the rock band to perform “She Talks to Angels.” The song was a 1991 hit for The Black Crowes and has been covered by numerous artists since its release. Blake Shelton covered the song in 2008.
Darius Rucker has performed the tune on stage many times during his career, so the matchup was a natural fit for the awards show. The audience couldn’t help but sing along as the performers belted out the familiar lyrics.
