Taken off his most recent album, If I’m Honest, Blake Shelton let fans in on the personal heartbreak experienced by the country singer with a notoriously tough exterior. While the album as a whole was no doubt one of the most honest pieces of work fans have seen from the singer, his latest single “Every Time I Hear That Song” is one of the most emotional.
Every year the biggest names in country music gather in Nashville for star-studded four day long musical event, CMA Music Festival. While it took place in June, the festival didn’t air until tonight (August 16) on ABC, the televised event hosted by Kelsea Ballerini and Thomas Rhett.
Shelton put all his emotions out on the table throughout his performance, taking a heart-wrenching approach to his delivery of the pain-ridden lyrics. While the singer has been absent from many recent award ceremonies, his extremely honest performance at the festival more than made up for it.
With a powerful line like “There’s a soundtrack in my mind / That takes me back in time,” Shelton perfectly captured the bittersweet taste of being hit by memories of love with someone you no longer speak to.
