“The King” Hints At Big News

Fans of George Strait got their first hint that “The King of Country” had something big in store when he took to social media to announce the release of a new song. Named “Código,” the track serves as an ode to Strait’s drink of choice, tequila.

The importance of this new song wasn’t lost on fans. It marked Strait’s first release in two years, since his single “Goin’, Goin’, Gone” came out in 2016.

Of course, when someone releases a new song after a few years, the first thought is that an album has to be in the pipeline. This is something that Strait clued fans in to through his social media posts, with his team writing “he might even sing a new song or two” at his then-upcoming shows in Las Vegas.

Taking New Tunes To Vegas

Sure enough, those who turned out to watch Strait perform in Vegas on Friday and Saturday nights (December 7 & 8) were in for a real treat. “The King of Country” was full of surprises that night, and for more reasons than one.

Of course, he had to sing “Código,” since the song had just been released hours prior to his first Vegas show.

But that wasn’t the only new song that Strait had to share. He also performed two other never-heard tracks, titled “God and Country Music” and “Every Little Honky Tonk Bar.”

The title of the latter song contained a bit of a hint to some other, even bigger news that Strait announced in Vegas.

Some Even Bigger News…

Just as fans suspected and hoped, Strait has a new album in the works! He revealed that its title will be Honky Tonk Time Machine, but no release date was given.

With a title like that, we can’t help but get excited over the material that Strait will have to share with us. Knowing him, it will be nothing but quality country music!

In addition to filling his shows with huge surprises, Strait also packed his setlist with all sorts of songs for his fans to enjoy. He sang some of his biggest hits, songs that are more hidden gems, and even performed a few covers, including renditions of Merle Haggard‘s “You Take Me For Granted” and “Are the Good Times Really Over.”
