Granger Smith and his wife, Amber, are expecting to welcome a baby boy in August 2021, and in a touching YouTube video, the pair shared what they plan to name their baby boy.

The good news follows a season of grief for the Smith family. On June 6, 2019, the couple’s son, River, drowned in a tragic accident at the family’s home in Texas. River was only three years old.
“We are going to search for every bit of good we can find in this situation, the worst situation we have ever been through. That’s my commitment to River’s legacy,” Granger stated in a YouTube video after the accident.
Following the couple’s pregnancy announcement in March 2020, the couple revealed that while Amber had her tubes tied after the pair welcomed River in 2016, Granger “felt this overwhelming feeling that, as a father, I had extra love to give.”
The Smiths began in vitro fertilization (IVF) in January 2020 and suffered a heartbreaking miscarriage later in the same year. The couple tried to conceive again with just one embryo left; they learned that they were expecting in December 2020.

Together, Granger and Amber decided that they want their baby boy’s name to pay tribute to his late brother. Amber expressed that she wanted the letters R-I-V to appear in the name, but she also wanted the baby to grow into “his own identity.” Finally, the couple announced that their baby boy would be named Maverick Beckham Smith. The letters carry a piece of his brother, and the name “Beckham” also means “home by the river.”
