The former husband of the ‘Voice’ coach and famous rockstar revealed that he was against the divorce from day one.
Gavin Rossdale and ex-wife Gwen Stefani announced their divorce in 2015 after rumors were swirling about the potential breakup, and with both being famous musicians, their split was highly publicized and left little room for privacy. Both parties remained very silent on the topic for months following.
Now, in a new interview, Rossdale is laying all his feelings out on the line.
Also a coach on one of The Voice international broadcasts, The Voice UK, Rossdale poured out his heart and soul to Fabulous, acknowledging the immense difficulty of his divorce, and confessing that he wasn’t happy about it at all.
“[Divorce] was completely opposite to what I wanted. Really not…” he told the magazine while staring down at the ground. “But here we are.”
Rossdale, 51, and Stefani, 47, were together for two decades and married for 13 years of that time, bringing into the world three beautiful children. And while Rossdale admits that he didn’t want the divorce to happen, he says many great things came from the their relationship, but he would change quite a few things if he had the opportunity to do so.
“I know we all wish that, but we can’t, so I have to deal with reality,” he confessed. “You can’t not have regrets and be human at the same time.”
“Apart from death, I think divorce is one of the hardest, most painful things to go through.”
In the year and a half since his divorce, Rossdale has embarked on a number of new projects, one of which was his decision to appear as a coach on the UK edition of The Voice, but says that there aren’t any future romances in sight.
“I’ve so much going on, that’s not a factor right now,” he told the publication, shaking his head.
But what he is focusing on is the three children he and Stefani share. The singer reveals that both he and his ex-wife remain committed to raising their children in the best way possible, despite the roughness they have gone through as a couple.
“The one thing – the only good thing, because everything else is not good – is we care about the children and it’s about them. So we do everything to make this life change as seamless as possible.”
Stefani, who is coaching the next season of The Voice alongside longtime boyfriend Blake Shelton has also expressed sentiments about the divorce in the time since, but she appears clearly decided that divorce was the best way to go.
