Over the weekend, millions of people participated in various women’s marches that took place around the world. Many celebrities turned out to take part in the marches, including actress and political activist, Ashley Judd.
Ashley is the daughter of Naomi Judd and sister to Wynonna Judd, who formed the popular country music duo, The Judds. Instead of becoming a country singer herself, Ashley turned to acting, and has appeared in notable films such as Norma Jean & Marilyn and Double Jeopardy.
In addition to her work as an actress, Ashley is well-known for her acts of politcal activism. She has been a strong supporter of the Democratic platform in the past, and spoke of her support for President Barack Obama.
Ashley was also one of several celebrities that participated in the women’s march that took place in Washington D.C. over the weekend. During the march, she stepped up to recite a poem written by 19-year-old Nina Donovan titled “I am a Nasty Woman.” The poem spoke negatively of President Donald Trump, with one line reading, “I am a nasty woman. Not as nasty as a man who looks like he bathes in Cheeto dust, a man whose words are a dis to America.”
The press latched on to Ashley’s speech, and it has since become one of the most-talked about moments from the marches. Fans of her sister, Wynonna, were quick to reach out to the singer for her views on the speech. Wynonna eventually responded to Ashley’s speech and the marches in a series of tweets on Twitter.
After writing that she “tries to stay away” from “toxicity,” she clarified in a further tweet that Ashley was not the sole source of that “toxicity.”
The whole thing is toxic. I’m not giving her all the credit. She doesn’t have that kind of power. https://t.co/GuUpBnLFYM

Wynonna made it clear to her fans that they would never see her express her politcal views on Twitter. She wrote that she is here for the “love of music & fellowship with fans.”
A reminder for people visiting my site. For me, it’s about love of 🎶 & fellowship w/ fans. I don’t do politics on here.

For Wynonna, she said that singing takes priority for her above anything politcal. In another tweet, she shared that she has proudly performed for five American presidents and will always show support for the country.
I have supported my country for 52yrs, I’ve sung for 5 presidents, & I will support my country until I take my last breath. 🎶🇺🇸🎶 https://t.co/dF7vLHuOcP
